SPEEDING UP THE RAILWAYS.
ON NAPIER, AND NEW PLYMOUTH SECTIONS. NON-STOP RUNS BETWEEN PALMERSTON AND WELLINGTON. Tn conversation with a Press re];t eseniative at Palmerston N. on Sunday, the Minister for Railways (Hon. J. G. Coates) stated that tiie new arrangement in connection with the speeding up of the New Plymouth and Napier expresses, would come into operation on April Ist. These expresses will make, practically a non-stop run between the city and Palmerston N., the passengers from intermediate stations being picked up and brought to Palmerston N. by a Gain leaving Wellington before the exjiresses in the morning. This arrangement will enable both expresses to leave Wellington later than at present and make faster runs on their respective journeys, the time of arrival at, the deslinations being virtually the same as hitherto.
Neither the Napier nor the New Plymouth expresses to Wellington in the afternoon would stop between Palmerston N. and Wellington. The most important alteration will be the effecting of direct communication between Napier and New Plymouth on the same day, though this does not apply to passengers coming from New Plymouth ‘o Napier. The Napier-Wellington express will make a fast run across to Palmerston N. and will connect with the New Plymouth express at Palmerston N., thereby enabling passengers for the West Coast to spend but a few minutes in Palmerston N. instead of nearly 24 hours which was previously necessary by the expresses.
