MINISTER AND CONFERENCE PRESIDENT. Wellington, Last Night. Recently Sir Geo. Clifford, president of tin- Racing Conference, wrote to the lion. Mr Bollard saying ho was surprised that Mr Bollard should imply the former had some share in framing the Minister’s edict regarding permits, as Mr Bollard well knew Sir Geo. Clifford didn’t confer with him thereon, and that Mr Bollard’s repori to Cabinet yvas in no sense the joint work of himself and the Racing Conference. The Minister has replied that he regrets some misapprehension has arisen. Me says he asked Sir Geo. Clifford to meet him, hut the latter’s illness prevented that, hut a meeting look place with the secretary of the Conference. Later, lie received a letter signed by Sir Geo. Clifford, being a list of racing clubs recommended by the dates committee of the Conference to lie allotted days ,f racing and tote permit licenses provided for in the 1924 Act, and lie assumed these were the recommendations of the Conference. Later, Mr Bollard met. the chairman of the. dales committee and the secretary of the Conference. With seven of the conference’s twelve recommendations he agreed, with four he disagreed and with one he did not think it could be said there was absolute disagreement. The Minister maintains that the intention of Parliament was carried out.
