MAN AGE R’S REPORT. The gns manager reported as follows at last night’s Borough Council meeting:—All the apparatus at (he works is in a fair state of repair, and working quite satisfactorily. During the month both the holders have been tarred and a couple of patches put on top of the small holder. Also one service, which was leaking badly, was renewed. Mr Carey recommenced his duties as stoker on February 10th, and seems to he quite all right again. There is a considerable amount of work to do outside through services boconi-. mg blocked. At present there is about 20 tons of coke on hand. — Adopted. JANUARY WORKING. During the month of ..January 387,700 ft. of gas was manufactured, which, with the'amount in the holder on January Ist, 15,200 ft., made u total of 402,000 e.ft. During the month 338,400 ft. were used by consumers, 1,000 ft. in street lamps, 22,500 ft-. at the works and there was 14,000 ft. in the holder on the Ist February, leaving 27,000 ft., representing 0-0 per cent., unaccounted for. Thirly-seven tons of coal was carbonised producing 10,405 e.ft. to the ton. There is 10 tons of coke oil hand. The expenditure for the month totalled £252 10/8. and was made up os follows: —Coal £lOl Ip/.!), sain rics unil wages £55 O/fq labour hi rings £1 15/-, lutings £ll Vi//, 'wharfage expenses 3/7, printing and advertising £3, repairs £1 !)/-, eartand freight 12/7, house £ls J, insurance 14/-, sundries £1 10s interest and sinking fund £5!) 11/8. The receipts for the month 1.01.a1h h d £IBB 10/!), and was made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £O2 10, 8, heal and power £llO 2/5, coke sales £5 12 2, tar sales 11/-, fillings £;s 14/0, miscellaneous £l. Cr Bryant, in discussing Ihe report, said that a. special meeting of the gas works committee should be n nvened to go into the more economical working of the gas works with the manager.

Ur. Smith said that people should hr encouraged to use gas tor heating purposes anil a little judicial advertising in this directon would ho of great value. It, was decided to hold a special meeting to discuss matters in connect ion with the gas works.
