PROPOSED NEW MOTOR SERVICE .

FOR MO Li TO A RESIDENTS. At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was read from the local Retailers’ Association, asking the Council if it was prepared to assist with raising a sum of money to subsidise a person to run a motor service on the Foxton-Mou-toa road. Mr Winstanley was also present in support of the letter. He said that the idea was to get someone to run a bus on the Moutoa-Foxton road on Saturday afternoon and night, bringing people to town and returning them after the pictures. The Retailers’ Association had considered it would be a good thing for the town as numbers of mill employees and others went into Shannon on Saturdays. Cr. Smith pointed out that a similar scheme was working in Levin with succes. Several people from Aioutoa had approached him on the matter and it was at his suggestion that the Association had taken the matter up. He felt sure the route would-prove itself a hnuncial success and no subsidy would be required. After a short discussion the following motion was put and carried unanimously: “That the Council supports the proposal to run a bus service to and from Moutoa Post Office on Saturdays and would be willing, if reqnired, to contribute the sum of £2 2/- towards such service.
