DOUBLE DROWNING TRAGEDY.

FATHER AND SON THE VICTIMS. Christchurch, Yesterday. A double drowning tragedy took place in the Estuary at Sumner today, tlie victims being Clarence George Hubert, 27, taxi driver, who resided at 2 Bamford St., Woolston, and his son, Stanley Hubert, aged five. At 9 a.m. father and son left home lor Redcliife, where they entered a dinghy owned by Hubert’s broilin', and proceeded out into the Estuary to fish. What eventually happened is not known, but it is surmised that when they were hauling up the anchor preparatory to the return home, the craft capsized. Shortly before 2 p.m. the body of the boy was found floating in shallow water near Cave Rock, Sumner. It was recovered immediately and efforts made to restore animation, but without success. The body was not identified till late to-night, when Mrs Hubert, alarmed at the prolonged absence of her husband and son, proceeded to the seaside to make inquiries about them. On being informed that the body of a hoy had been taken from the sea, she viewed it and thus was made aware of the tragedy. The dingy was recovered to-night near Shag Rock, floating bottom up, but the body of Hubert has not yet been found. Mrs Hilbert is left with a baby nine weeks old.
