MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

Although the municipal, elections are some distance off, local interest is being aroused in civic affairs. Cr. A. Ross lias intimated that he will not seek re-election to the Council. Crs. Geo. Coley and Thorpe will not seek re-election, the former on account'of ill health and the latter has left, the district. We understand that the remainder of the sitting Councillors will seek re-elec-tion. Among new aspirants to the Council the following names are mentioned: Messrs F. Woods. Winstanley, Adiuore, E. G. Martin, BarMcMurray, Robertson, Simmons and D. Christie. A petition, is in circulation asking Mr M. Perreau to stand for the Mayoralty. QUALIFICATIONS OF VOTERS. The following are the qualifications which entifle citizens to apply for enrolment upon the district electors’ roll for the municipal eleciions to be held in April.'— Freehold quolitications : A person whose name appears for (he time being in the “occupiers” erihimn in the valuation roll in respect of any rateable property in the borough. Residential qualification: A resilient of‘ New Zealand for 12 months and fm* three months past a resident in the district, and who is a British subject either by birth or naturalisation in New Zealand.

Occupier’s qualification: A person who for at least three months has been in occupation as a tenant or sub-tenant in any house, warehouse, shop, office etc. in the district at a rental of not less than £lO per annum. In the case of husband and wife, any qualification possessed by either of them shall he deemed to he possessed by each of them. Those who have both freehold and residential qualifications l’nav select the qualification in respect of which the name is to he entered upon the l oil. Those with residntial qualification are not entitled to vote on any proposal relating to loans or rates hut may vote on all other proposals and at elections.
