The Mayor (Mr John Chrystall) l as received the following letter from Captain Fenton, Officer Commanding the 19th Battery, recently in camp at Foxton:— “Dear Sir, —Will you kindly con- . oy to the residents of Foxton the appreciation of myself and a'll ranks of the 19th Battery of the splendid hospitality extended to us during our short stay in camp. I may say that every member of the Battery would have been only too glad to

have spent an additional week at the Racecourse, and hope that next year, they may have the pleasure of renewing the many acquaintances already made. Might I also express regret for any inconvenience caused through the firing of two guns on Friday night. The idea was not suggested until too late for newspaper ■’edification but we thought that the* idea had been well advertised during the afternoon. —(Sgnd.) R. W. Benton, Capt. for /Officer Commanding Battery.

CAMP CRITICISM. Mr P. T. Robinson, referreing to our refutation of his criticism of the recent artillery camp at the racecourse, states that “we fail to refute his statement that there were no up-to-date sanitary conveniences at the camp, and further, that the number of people who attended the at home were not more than fifty.” Re the attendance of children (under 16 years), Mr Rpbinson writes: “If you are prepared to give me a written guarantee to pay any fine that may be imposed if a breach of the regulations was committed by children attending, I. in return, will give one name in the first instance to test your guarantee, and will later supply others.” Bor verification of our previous statements we refer Mr P, T. Robinson to the Defence Headquarters, at Palmerston- N.
