Chamber of Commerce: “That while this Chamber appreciates the work dime by the Foxton Harbour Board, it would respectfully request the Board to take into consideration the proposal to erect protection works so as to ensure a permanent fairway to the port." A covering letter stated that in several places the river had widened out, with the result that ihe speed of the water had been greatly reduced, and in consequence ihr depth of the water had been decreased, ami was detrimental to shipping. The Chamber was of the opinion that steps should be taken ie confine Ihe water in these places —ll as to cause a scour and make a pci manenl channel. It was considered that iho time had arrived for the Board to bring forward a scheme to deepen the depth of wafer at the bar. so ilini vessels of greater draft can trade to the port. After a short discussion it was decided to support the Foxton Ch am law's resolution.
