MANAWATU OROUA RIVER BOARD.
Tlie monthly meeting of the Ma-nawafcu-Orona River Board was held at Palmerston N. on Thursday, Mr W. S. Carter presiding. Also present were Messrs A. Seifert, A. W. Akers, B. Gower, K. McDonald, N. P. Nielson, H. Akers, H. Wilton and P. C. Hay (engineer). Mr W. B. V. Pearce, of Rangiotu, waited on the Board with regard to the requirement of the Board that he cut the willows on his property. He asked that members of the Board inspect the land before enforcing the order, explaining that owing to the effect of the willows above and below his property, the latter was flooded. Any willows he had left on his land were for his own protection. The chairman, Mr Gower and the engineer were appointed to inspect the property. In reporting on the different works canned out during the month, the engineer (Mr P. C. Hay) stated that some field work had yet to be done. The men had started the work. The detail design would begin as soon as prints were received from Wellington. It was decided to approach the .Sluggish River Drainage Board, requesting them to take steps to prevent the debris of (heir clearing work to float down and form blocks ir. the Oroua River. Two members were appointed to wait upon the Board, wbieli was silting and they returned with the information that the chairman would ha.ve the mutter remedied. The Board then went into committee on the matter of classification of land to discuss the best method of meeting objectors.
