NYE FERNS MATCHES. During this week three matches have been played for the Nye Ferns. On Monday evening a rink skipped by Thomson was successful after an exciting finish, in securing possession of the trophies from Smith’s rink. In this game Thomson got well away at the commencement of the game, but finally Smith brought the scores within winning distance and the result was quite in doubt until the last bowl had been played. The details are:— Challengers: Whibley, Warwick, Admore, Thomson (s) 19; Holders: Powell, Healey, Walker, Smith (s) 17. Yetserday afternoon a challenging rink skipped by Roore tried conclusions with Thomson’s .team, the gun to being even until the ninthhead, after which Roore gradually increased his lead, the final scores showing a margin of ten points in favour of (lie challengers. Challengers: Winstanley, Downes, Christie, Roore (s), 23. Holders: Whibley, Warwick, Admore, Thomson (s), 13. At the conclusion of the above game, a rink skipped by Walker tried conclusions for the Ferns. In this, game Rome’s rink secured a lead of twelve on the sixth head before the challengers had “shown colour.” On the seventeenth head scores stood 19 —9, in favour of Roore, and on the next Walker notched a live, which put. him within the possibility, of winning. The twentieth head gave Walker another four, making the scores: Roore 20, Walker 18. However Itoort added two on the final head, the scores then being 22 —18. Holders: Winstanley, Downes, D. Chtislie, Roore (5),22. Challengers: Mason, Huntley, Smith, Walker (s) IS. This evening a rink representing Sat in day players and consisting of .las. Ross, F. Mason, S. Head, and Jim. Ross will contend with the holders of the Ferns.
