FOXTON BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

There were present at last night's meeting of tlie Fox ion Beautifying Society Alessis AL Pei l ean (presi- ’ 'dent), Afrs Ale Murray, Rev. Perynian, Messrs 11. Osborne, AA instanley. J. K. Horn blow, and Trimmer (secretary). Correspondence was received from the Borough Council notifying that the .Justice Department had granted permission to proceed with the proposed work on the ground near the ( .mrfhonsc accord ug to the beautifying society's plan. The chairman slated that he had received a verbal offer to have the work carried out at a cost of £SO. He suggested that the work he done by the society and'when completed the Borough Council be asked for a subsidy on same. Other members did not agree with this proposal, being of opinion that the Council should construct the path which would he used hy the public and that the Council should hear a fair proportion of the cost of the work. It was decided that the fence be moved into position according to plan and that the Borough Council he then approached to lay down the necessary footpath before any further beautifying is proceeded with. The removal and re-erection of the fence was left in the hands of' the president and Rev. Peryman. A discussion took place in reference to Ihakara Garden. It was pointed out. that the Council had not yet laid on the water to this reserve which was needed to promote the growth of plant life. The secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Council making further application for the construction of the footpath on the south side of Ihakara garden; also to clear the grass and tar-seal the west side of the Triangle; also that the town water tie laid on to Ihakara gardens. It was decided to complete the path in Ihakara Garden and that prices for sarnie be obtained and submitted to next meeting. It was pointed out that this work was previously authorised at a cost not to exceed £4O, hut the previous quotation exceeded this amount. In order to come within the amount specified it was resolved to reduce the width of the path to 3ft. and the depth of the concrete to two inches. Accounts amounting to £2 12/were.passed for payment. Air Hone ArcADllan, of Ihakara, was elected a member of the society. It was reported that certain of the tree guards had been damaged in Park St. hy persons using them to tether horses. Resolved to repair same.
