HOW TO BREATHE.
With the exception of professional singers and elocutionists who are taught to breathe correctly hardly one woman in a thousand is a deep breather. And deep breathing is essential to beauty and youth as well ns to health, says a writer in the “Daily Mail.’’ The shallow breather never obtains enough oxygen to give her a clear complexion or bright eyes. The first step towards deep breathing is to acquire the habit of walking correctly. When walking or sitting —for to sit correctly is as important as to walk correctly—the head should lie erect, the chest expanded, and the shoulders thrown hack and drawn downwards. This enables the lungs to he tilled and emptied—without any effort. if you are a shallow breather and wish to improve your health and your looks, practise the following exercise every day for several minutes. 11 will brighten your eyes, clear \our complexion and give you a graceful carriage besides warding off that “middle-aged” spread which is so much dreaded by the woman uho wishes io preserve her good looks. Stand wilh the back - against a door or 1 , wall in a room which is thoroughly well ventilated, with the hack of the head, shoulders, elbows and heels touching the wall or door. Then inhale, very slowly, through lhe nostrils a deep breath. Hold it for a second or longer if possible, I lien very slowly exhale.
