MR. MASSEY’S HEALTH.
“GREATLY IMPROVED.” MESSAGE TO ELECTORATE. Pukekohe, January 23. The health of the Prime Minister was referred to by the Minister for Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, in replying to-speeches of welcome on the occasihon of his visit t'o Pukekohe yesterday/ Mr McLeod, who remarked that he was paying his first official visit to Pukekohe, said he had pleasure in conveying a message from the Prime Minister, the worthy representative of Franklin, and the leader of the Government. Mr Massey had asked him to endeavour to visit Franklin on this occasion. He could say definitely, on the authority of Mr Massey’s medical adviser, that he had very greatly improved in health. (Applause). This was a matter for congratulation and acected not only Pukekohe and New Zealand, but the whole Empire. There had been many vague rumours, but he could state authoritatively that Mr Massey’s illness was acute sciatica. The hard work of last session had its effects and quietness had been ordered. For about ten days Mr Massey had been able to retire at nine or ten o’eolek and sleep until morning. He would likely have to take a trip away somewhere before he was quite better, hut they would see him hack in his place next session, leading the Reform Party as usual. (Applause). Mr F. Perkins, chairman of the Pukekohe Chamlber of Commerce, on behalf of the residents, expressed pleasure at the announcement that the Prime Minister was improving and asked that the sympathy of the people of the district should be conveyed to Mr Massey and the wish expressed that he may long continue to carry the flag of the Reform Party.
