ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT.

* At the Palmerston N. police court on Tuesday, James Barter was charged with committing indecent assault on three boys, each of 14 years, on August 1, August, 7 and July 1, 1924. Accused pleaded not. guilty. In outlining the case, DetectiveSergeant. Quirke, who conducted the case for the police, stated that accused had been residing in Palmerston N. for the past 18 months, and at the date of the alleged offences he was a Scoutmaster. In that capacity he had more or less control of the boys alleged assaulted by him.

The evidence of the three boys concerned as well as that of two other lads, was then taken. Accused reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court at Palmerston North for trial.
