LEVIN-MARTON RAILWAY LEAGUE.
AN APPR ECIATION. The president of the local Chamber of Commerce (Mr D. Christie), mentioned the matter of the-Lev-m-Marton Railway League at last night’s meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce and paid tribute to the work done by the executive. He moved the following motion : “That this Chamber place on record its appreciation of the work done by Messrs J. Chrystall, D. W. Matlieson and A. C. Holms, in compiling the data and information placed before the commission.”—Seconded by Mr J. K. Hornblow and carried.
Mr Chrystall, in returning thanks said the question was by no means dead. In view of the very satisfactory report made by the engineers he was certain the-proposal would be carried out in the future. The campaign would still go on. It had been shown that the link would save 19 miles on the through journey from Wellington to Auckland instead of 16 as previously staled. Mr McKenzie, a departmental engineer, said that if he lived on the route he would not rest until the line was completed. ’l’he Chamber donated two guineas towards the fund of the League.
