MANAWATU SUMMER MEETING The Manawatu Racing Club’s 1 summer meeting opened at Awapuni on Boxing Day. After a steady down-pour of rain in the morning, the weather cleared and a large crowd attended. The racing was of a most interesting description, the : totalisator handling £50,333 as against £52,034 last year. First day’s - results: — Tokomaru Hurdles. —Puwhero 1, v Bonifant 2, Mangawhero 3. Won by four lengths. Time 3.18. Maiden Plate.—Euphonium 1, The Tank 2, Mountain Jean 3. Won " by a neck. Time 1.17. Tararua Welter Handicap—Highway 1, Peter Rosa 2, Sottano 3 Won by a length. I The third day of the meeting was held under most disappointing conditions, a very heavy ..shower falling just before the fifth race and continuing ,at -intervals, converting the track which was heavy till this, into a quagmire. The totalisator handled against. £351526 for the 'concluding day last year, making a total for the meeting of £123,981 as against £122,965 last vear.
