ADULTERATED MILK.
FINE OF £5 IMPOSED. At yesterday’s S.M. Court, before Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., the adjourned case in which James Allerby, milk vendor, of Foxton, was charged under the Pure-Foods Act, with adulterating milk, was continued. Mr Bergin (for. defendant) said that since last court day lie had got into communication with the Government vetinary surgeon, who had examined Allerby’s cows at the time of the alleged poisoning. He said thait at first he had been puzzled as to the cause of death, but subsequently had ascertained ,that the animals had died from natural causes. Couhsel pointed out that the offence was a technical one. The S.AI.: It is more than a technical offence. Continuing, he said that the police had made a careful investigation and could find no evidence of the alleged victimisation referred to at last court sitting. Selling milk containing ten per cent of added water, as in this case, was a serious offence, No outsider was likely to have added the water. Convicted and fined £5 with costs 17/6, defendant being allowed one month within which to pay the fine.
