FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. A pleasing ceremony took place at (he local State school yesterday afternoon when the annual prizegiving took place and Father Christmas paid his annual visit and distributed toys to the infants. Despite the rain there was a good attendance of parents. Mr Mason, headmaster, addressed those present and referred to the excellent work done during the year, despite the changes in the staff and tn epidemic of measles, etc., which interfered with the attendance. He referred to the necessity for secondary education at the school and swimming baths, and touched on other matters of importance to the educational welfare of the scholars. Mr J. K. Hornhlow, Chairman of Committee, before presenting the prizes, also delivered an appropriate address. He congratulated the staff and children on t]ie year’s work, and referred to the Walter Bock memorial prizes for the dux hoy and girl, to he awarded each year from the fund set aside for that purpose.
Cheers were given for the prizewinners, headmaster and staff. Father Christinas (Mr Perreau) received a great ovation and spoke cheerily to the infants assembled in their doss room, where he distributed gifts from a well-laden t ree. McKnight’s special prizes, for the best essay written by a girl and best essay written by a hoy: Subject “An original Christinas Story,” .Margaret Tver and Vernon Moore.
