MANGAHAO FATALITY.
HOW THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED.
The Shannon correspondent of the Levin Chronicle, reporting on the fatal accident on Wednesday, at the Mangahao power house, states that it had been arranged to start the No. 4 generator at the Power House and in order to do so it was necessary to adjust the protective relays. Prior to starting the generator, it was necessary to short-circuit the generator outside the protected area, involving in the first place the short circuiting of No. 4 switch. Mr Matthews was preparing to do this latter work and it was understood that the switch was dead. He was on top of the cubicle about eight feet from the concrete floor and was putting the short circuit bar into position when an arc occurred severely burning his arms and neck and causing him to fall hack on to the concrete floor, his skull being fractured. /
