FIRE BRIGADE SOCIAL.
BOARD MEMBERS ENTERTAINED. At the conclusion of last night’s Fire Board meeting, members were entertained at a social evening in Perreau’s Rooms by the members of the Fire Brgade. Mr F. C. Cray (Charmau of the Board) presided. An apology for absence was received from Mr A. N. Smith. In addressing the gathering, Mr Cray said that he had been a member of the Board sim-e its inception and had experienced many trying times. Since being chairman lie had always had the unanimous support of Iris colleagues, however. The Board was out to'further the best interests of the Fire Brigade. Personally, he was a lover of the volunteer spirit, and hoped it would never die. All his life he had been connected in some way with fire fighting. He assured the brigade members that they would not be turned away by the Board .with any reasonable request. The Brigade was deserving of assistance as it stood for the protection of large vested interests as well as the protection of life. He hoped theBrigade would continue the good work it had been doing, and uphold the authority of its officers. The Board would do everything to help them.
During the evening the following toasts were honoured: “The Superintendent,” ,“The Board” and “The Host.” Messrs Hornblew. Rowe and Irvine, together with the chairman, firefly returned thanks on behalf of the Board.
A very pleasant social evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
