THE HEMP MARKET.
NOVEMBER GRADING RETURNS.
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper-tow and stripper-slips for the month of November, has been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows, — The number of bales oif hemp graded at each port was as follows: Good High Low
Six bales at Picton were graded line. Three bales at Auckland, 84 at Foxton and 24 at Wellington were rejected. Forty-two bales at Foxton and nine bales at Wellington were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Fine 6 (nil), good fair 613 (896), high fair 4,025 (3,768), low fair 3.152 (1.609), common 706 (283), rejected 111 (25), condemned 51 (nil), a total of 8,664 bales, being an increase of 2,082 bales. The following shows the number of bales graded at each port:— Auckland 2,059, Foxton 1,776, Wairoa 374, Wellington 2,643, Picton 59, Blenheim 228. Lyttelton 48, Pt, Chalmers 185, Dunedin 104, Bluff 1,188. Tow. —The fallowing shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded : ‘
Seventeen bales at Auckland,. 45 at Foxton, 17 at Wellington, five at Blenheim and 13 at Pt. Chalmers, were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 419 (414), 2nd grade 1,358 (938), 3rd grade 539 (116), condemned 97 (10), a total of 2,413 bales, being an increase of 935 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows: — Auckland 477, Foxton 382, Wairoa 84, Wellington 608, Picton 44, Blenhiem 63, Pt. Chalmers 115, Bluff 578, Lyttelton 62. Stripper-tow. —Twenty-four bales at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. At Wellington 49 bales were graded 3rd grade and four bales were condemned. Stripper-Slips. —Six bales at Auckland and 18 at Wellington went graded Ist grade. Thirteen bales at Auckland, 10 at Foxton, 42 at Wellington and 198 at Bluff were graded 2nd grade and 10 bales at Auckland and six at Wellington were condemned.
The High Commissioner’s cable, dated the 6th inst., reads: “Hemp, Manila market, firm and active during this week, but closed quiet. ‘J’ grade, December-Februavy shipments, sold at £56 to £56 10/-, but to-day’s value is £56. New Zealand market quiet. Small business has been done in high points, DecemberFebruary shipments at £43 10/-. To-day’s quotations are high points £44. fair, December-February shipments, £42.”
