HISTORIC MEETING.

SAMOANS WELCOAIED BY ALAORIS. Rotorua, Last Night. Saturday saw an historic meeting at Tametekapua, Ohinemutu, between Samoan Faipules and representatives of the Alaori race —the fiist recorded for one thousand years. Arawa chiefs welcomed the Samoans with intense cordiality, to which Toelape, the spokesman of the Samoans, replied. Dr. Te Rangihiroa, for the visiting officials of the New Zealand Government, in a great speech, detailed the history of the Polynesian migration and the significance of the reunion. It was recognised by Samoan and Alaori that the races were identical in custom, tradition and language, the latter only differing in form. The Samoans were shown over the district and were immensely impressed.
