OCTOBER WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of October was 490,600 c.ft., which with the amount in the holder on October Ist.. 17,600 ft., made a total of 708,200 ft the month 407,300 ft. were used by consumers, 20,000 ft. in street lamps, 25,500 ft. at the works and there were 16,200 ft. in the hol-

der on November Ist., making a total of 469,000 ft. and leaving 39,•qtOft., representing 7.7 per cent., unaccounted for. Forty-five tons of coal were carbonised during the month, producing 10,917 e.ft. to the ton. Nine tons ten ewt. of coke was produced. The receipts for the month totalled £2BO 0/7, and were made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £lOl 8/7, heat and power £lO7 7/5, coke .sales £2l 14/1, tar sales £23 6/-, .fittings £25 19/6. miscellaneous 5/-. The expenditure was as follows: Coal £ll6 .10/5, salaries and wages £56 12/-, fittings £6 16/2, working expenses £1 9/1, cartuge and freight 10/-, 'phone £3, meter repairs £25 6/9, engine repair and oil 6/-, stores £1 17/10, interest and sinking fund £59 11/8, a total of £271 19/11. ALIN ACER’S REPORT. At last night’s meeting of the BoromgJi Council, the gas works manager reported as follows: “The plant in working satisfactorily, and the apparatus is all in fairly good order. Some of the street lamps have been taken down and the others will he when time permits. During the month , two caliphonts and two cookers have been installed and a good deal of' other work has been done outside. The demand for coke is still good.”—Adopted. Cr. Adams asked that the lamp post at the corner of Thynne and Park Bis., which was in the centre of the footpath, be removed. The gas works committee recommended that the Mayor and the Town Clerk wait on the Horowhenua Electric Power Board at its next meeting with a view to coming to some workable arrangement re gas and electricity in this district. — Adopted.
