A MATTER OF JUSTICE.
At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council a letter received from the Foxton Racing Club asking that a water main be erected down Whyte St. so that they may connect their property up with the borough water supply. 'Phe following motion was moved: “That in reply to the Racing Club, il is regretted that as the reticulation of Whyte St. extension was not provided for in the loan proposal (the street at the time not being opened up) it is not possible to lay a water main until the work for which the loan monies was raised has been completed.” Cr. Bryant said he thought the Club’s request quite reasonable. Next month there would be a number of horses at the Club’s stables. The Club would be satisfied* with a two inch water pipe. Cr. Smith also spoke in support of the request. The Mayor said that there was no funds for this work. Cr. Bryant: The Club pays something in the vicinity of £IOO a year in rates and doesn’t get any benefit from it. 1 think the request should be granted. The Mayor pointed out that recently two or three private consumers in Coley St. had been turned down on the same grounds, there being no funds. The Racing Club certainly paid big rates, but they could not flavour them on that account. That would not he justice. In any case the Racing Club supply would not be an all-the-year one.
Cr. Bryant i.-on.-idereu the mains should be Liken to everyone who was paying the rate. The motion" was carried, Crs R. Bryani and Smith voting against.
