A dispute arising out of the drainage and banking works now being carried out by the Makerua Drainage Board in the Makerua area, and the relation of the Poplar mill property thereto was the subject of an arbitration case between the Makerua Drainage Board, and the Poplar Flaxmilling Co., conducted at the offices of the Board at Palmerston N. on Thursday. The question at issue was the fixing of compensation to be paid by the Board to the Poplar Flaxmilling Co., for works carried out on the latter’s property.

The arbitrators were Mr A. H. Wright (Palmerston N.) for the Board, and Mr B. G. Gower (Foxton) for the flaxmilling company. Mr 11. Viekerman acted as umpire. Counsel engaged were Mr Myers, K.C., of Wellington, with him Mi - B. J. Jacobs, Palmerston N., who appeared for the company, and Mr Innes, of Palmerston N., who appeared for the Drainage Board. Lengthy evidence was heard, but the proceedings are not open to the press.
