LEVIN BOROUGH COUNCIL MAKES GRANT. The Levin-FoxJon-Marton Railway league forwarded its constitution to the Levin Borough Council at Tuesday night’s meeting, and invited the Council’s support in the membership and finance, and also iii the holding of a 'public meeting to further the objective of the League. Cr. Roe said matters had been progressing very favourably in connection with the movement. It was a question of finance now and the Council should assist it. Cr. Keedwell said it was a case of now or never. He reported at some length upon matters connected with the survey made last week by Public Works Engineers and with regard to placing the League’s case before the British Railway Commissioners. Cr. Parker said the real win was when the Department admitted that there was no survey. Cr. Keedwell said that was so. The Railway Department was condemning the route without knowing anything about it. Some,.wonderful work jiad been done by Messrs Holms and Matheson in representing the: matter to the Government. The time had arrived when the Borough Council should assure the League of its assistance. He. moved that financial aid be given up to £5. Cr. Parker: And express our appreciation of the work done. The motion was carried. The Mayor said it was very creditable to hear what had been done. He was so pleased with it that he would make a donation of £1 towards the fund. —Chronicle.
