OBITUARY.
The death took place at Wellington yesterday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Pulley, of Airs Esther iuLiieJ., relict of the late Air W. J. Rider, and mother of Air "J. N. Rider, of Koxton, aged 83 years. The late Airs Rider was born in Tasmania and came to New Zealand about 25 years ago, settling in Welling; on. The late All's Rider leaves a family of live daughters, one son and a number of grandchildren to mourn their loss. The interrment will take piaee at Wellington to-mor-row.
It is with regret we have to record the death of All's Andrew Thomson seur., (says the Wanganui Herald), who passed away on Alonai the advanced age of 86 years. The deceased lady was bom in Campbell town, Argyllshire, Scotland, in 1838, and came to New Zealand witii her husband in 1862. They iauiled at Napier, where Air Thomson opened the first school in that town. In January 1874, they came to Wanganui, and Air Thomson opened the then well-known Wanganui Academy, a private school, which he conducted very successfully for several years, afterwards going to Bulls, as headmaster of the school there. With the exception of her slay at Bulls, Mrs Thomson had resided in Wanganui ever since her first arrival. She was geatly beloved for her gentle and kindly disposition, and a very large circle of friends will regret her passing. She is survived by a family of five sons and lye daughters—Mr A. D. Thomson, Lower Hutt; Rev. J. M. Thomson, Pic ton; Mr P. B. Thomson, Auckland; Alessrs J. A. and W. G, Thomson, Wanganui; Mrs T. W. Downes and Miss Thomson and Mrs L. J. Watkins, Wellington; Mrs G. Al. Templar, Pahiatua. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
