IMPROVED RAILWAY SERVICES.
RAILWAY MINISTER’S STATEMENT. Auckland, November 29. Reference to railway matters was made by the Hon. J. G. Coates when speaking at Wnimnuku on Thursday. , . “After a good deal of consideration and investigation,” he said, “the department is going to make an effort to giVe you faster and heller services. The trains at present are too slow (Hear, Hear). I believe that the service can be greatly smartened up. Our new comirivcial branch is finding out your needs; how to serve you better. We want all misunderstanding and irritation got out of the wav. The department is there to help—not to retard. A number of improvements have been made in the last few months, including reductions in freights, representing £250,000 annually. So long as the railways meet all charges, we are prepared and anxious to make concessions and even to build a little ahead of requirements where ultimately development w’iljl make the proposition a payable one.
