BEACH SCHOOL.

A very successful concert and prize-giving ceremony in connection with the Beach school took place in the Beach Hall last night. Mr Christofferson, the teacher in charge, had coached the children in a number of items which reflected credit upon the little ones and their teacher. T,he programme consisted o.) choruses, sketches and physical exercises. The children’s items were interspersed with vocal and instrumental items by a number of adults. Mr J. K. Hornblow, chairman of the local school committee, presided, and briefly referred to school matters. His remarks were supplemented by Mr F. Mason, headmaster, v ho also distributed the prizes and spoke encouragingly to parents and pupils. At the conclusion of the concert Mr Christoffersen acknowledged tiie .appreciative references to his work and thanked those who had assisted him in coaching the children and for donations to the prize fund. A telegram was read from Miss Patton, late teacher, conveying good wishes and regret at being unable to be present. The children’s items were as follows: —“A Visit From Fairyland,” Zillah Hartley; song, “Sweet and Low,” school; Empire Day verses, 10 children; “The Three Bears,” four children. A very amusing and clearly, executed sketch; physical drill, pupils; action song, “The Chinaman,” pupils; epilogue, Ellen Inwood and Eddie Macpherson. Others who contributed to the programme were: — Misses Patterson (2), Mrs Pedersen and Mr and Mrs Tonge, instrumental trio; mandolin duet by Messrs C. Shortt and Chaffey, violin solo AD’S Pedersen; mono ’cello item by Mr C. Simmons, recitations by Messrs Hornblow and Outrim. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Evans and Miss Healey. Supper was handed round at the conclusion and an enjoyable dance followed. PRIZE LIST. The following are the names of the pupils who received prizes at the function:— Std. Primer IV. —Iris Cross, Betty Drummond, Rona Wishart, Oliver Murdoch, David Hay. Primer HI. —Margaret Hay, Elsie Murdoch, Pearl Stinson, John Shortt John Aloxen. Primer H. —Florence Boyle, Kathleen Boyle, Nyra Drummond, Marcia Murdoch, Molly Macpherson, Irene Moxen, Alywn Bowley, Cecil Grunfly, Edward Shortt, Henry Boyle,Russell Pedersen, John Turoa.
