DOUBLE DROWNING FATALITY.
AT NEW BRIGHTON BEACH. Christchurch, Last Night. Two young men, one of them Clarence E. Scholfield, of Auckland, and the other Alexander Wilford Anderson, of this city, were drowned in the surf at North New Brighton this afternoon. Scholfield was a commercial traveller employed by Messrs Nathan and Co., of Auckland, and his mother resides in Parnell. It. is thought that he got into difficulties while trying to save Anderson whose ■ body has not yet been recovered, Scholfield was brought ashore after a big struggle in the surf, but efforts to resuscitate him failed, although his rescuers believe that life was not extinct when he was laid on the beach.
