FAREWELL TO GOVERNORGENERAL.
VICE-REGAL PARTY SAILED YESTERDAY. The public farewell to the Gov-ernor-General at Wellington yesterday, was enthusiastic and spontaneous and the children played a special part in the demonstrations. Their Excellencies left Government House at noon, and were accompanied by an escort of the 6th Manawatu Mounted Rifles, and proceeded through the main streets of the city to the King’s wharf, where they arrived at 12.30. His Excellency then inspected the guard of honour of Wellington College cadets and after farewells in the Harbour Board building,, the party boarded the Tahiti, a salute being fired as they did so from Mt. Cook. As the vessel moved down the harbour she w-as preceded by the Veronica and the Dunedin, oh board of which were naval officials and Ministers of the Crown. The warships accompanied the steamer to the three mile limit in Cook Strait, where Viscount Jellicoe’s jurisdieton as Governor-General ceased and he was then finally farewelled by a salute of 19 guns fired from the Dunedin. The Administrator of the Government, the Right Hon. Sir Robert Stout, has received the following wireless message from Viscount Jcllicoe, s.s. Tahiti: “Being now outside the territorial limits, my family and myself bid you and the people of New Zealand a most regretful farewell, with every possible good wish for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the Dominion. Signed Jellieoe.” Sir Robert Stout replied as follows.: “Thank you for your message. I feel scire the people _of New Zealand will never forget your great services to the Dominion and the Empire. Warmest good wishes for the happiness of you all. Robert Stout.”
