GAS AND ELECTRICITY.
RESULT OF COMPETITION IN l LEVIN. “There is an idea abroad • that the Borough Gasworks are about to close down owing to the competition of the electric light,” said Cr. Parker, chairman of the Gasworks Committee at Monday night’s meeting of the Levin Borough Council, states the Chronicle. Such was very far from the case, he added, as he proceeded to quote figures showinjg steady progress despite the. switch over of many light consumers to the Mangahao supply. Cr. Parker stated he had obtained the figures for the first ten days of November in the last three-years, those for 1924 representing the consumption of gas in competition with electric light. These figures were as. follow: ' ... 1922 .... ..... . 224,000 ft. 1923 234,500 ft. 1924 ..250,900ft. He also drew' attention to the fact that the demand for- new gas services had not abated. Five gas stoves had been installed in October and three’ caliphonts had also been put in. These facts, he considered, disposed of the, idea that.the-Munici-pal Gasworks would have to close down. : ; ' •
