HOROWHENUA ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers, at Levin on Tuesday, the chairman, Mr G. A. Monk,/presiding. Also present were: Messrs Brown,* Kilsby, Gunning, Matheson, Seifert, A. Ross, and W. E. Barber. Leave of absence was granted to Mr A. Mackay. The Board’s solicitors forwarded a draft of proposed lighting agreement with the various boroughs taking light from the Board.—The agreement was approved. Mr H. B. Walker, the Board’s construction foreman, wrote in reference to his bill for power supplied, asking if it was the intention that the Board’s officers living in houses belonging to the Board should pay for light. The chairman said that there should be no hesitation on the Board’s part in regard to this matter. The Board was not in a position to give any electricity away. If this were started, they did not know where it would end. Rather the Board should if they considered it necessary, increase the foreman’s salary. If the Engineer recommended that this should be done, then the Board could consider it. Until then they could do nothing.
No action was taken. Accounts totalling £2,091 8/2 were passed for payment. In answer to Mr Barber the Engineer stated that in all probability a large proportion of the Foxton Beach township would be reticulated in time for Christmas. The contracts would be let in a few days and it would then depend on the expedition of the contractors.
