LIBEL ACTION.

Wellingon, Last Night. Allegations of false and defamatory statements were made in a libel action which commenced at the Supreme Court to-day, when James Samuel Monteeiuo, also known as Jim Robinson, sued the newspaper “Truth” for £5Ol damages. The plaintiff claimed that he played the piano continuously for a hundred hours and ten minutes.. The newspaper published an article in which it declared the plaintiff had slept for twenty out of' the hundred hours and other statements were.also published including one that plaintiff was sent to gaol for assault. The defendant paper admitted publication but denied the extracts were either false or defamatory and submitted they were fair comment.
