FLOOD PROTECTION

BOARD WAITS ON MU MAS SKY. A deputation from the Manawatu Oroua River Board waited on the Prime Minister, the Rl. Hon. A\. P. Massey, at Shannon, on Monday. The deputation comprised Messrs R. T. Bell, (chairman), A. Seifert, ami W. S. Carter.

Mr Bell pointed out to the Premier that the hiiard purposed continuing its efforts to have its tinge 'Hood protection scheme declared a national work, whereby it Would he entitled to a (iovenimenl subsidy. The hoard, Mr Bell pointed out. intended to again approach the Minister on the matter as it now had the necessary data and particulars of laud classification for rating purposes to put before him. The Prime Minister intimated that at Ihe present juncture at least, lie could not entertain the question of a Government subsidy such as was sought. The chairman of he hoard, however, informed a “Standard” reporter that, he was pleased to have had the opportunity to place the position before the Premier at such an opportune moment, when the district had just experienced a flood of considerable extent.
