PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION.
LABOUR MOTION DEFEATED. Air AlcCombs moved in the House yesterday that it should be a recom-,. inundation to the Government to bring in an Electoral Bill, contain-" iiig proportional representation provisions next session. Mr Wilford said be would vote for the motion, though lie favoured pro- _ pnrtionnl representation with the retention of the country quota. Mr Armstrong said that to be honest one must realise that any system which retained the country quota was not proportional in its representation. Mr Massey expressed himself as absolutely against proportional representation and Mr AlcCombs’ proposal was defeated by 35 votes to 2t>. The Liberal and Labour members voted with Air AlcCombs except that Messrs Alurdoch and de la Perrell voted with the Government.
