FIRE SUPERINTENDENT PROSECUTED.
FOR SPEEDING FIRE ENGINE. Wanganui, Last Night. An interesting ease was heard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, the police proceeding- under the Motor Regulations Act, against the deputy superintendent of the lire brigade .for driving a lire motor at a speed dangerous to the public. The motor at the time was not proceeding to a fire, but to locate a break in a water main. Witnesses stated that the motor was travelling at 50 miles an hour at one point of the journey. Mr Slipper, for the defence, contended that a motor under the Act was a vehicle not exceeding thiee tons weight, whereas the tire engine weighed Jive tons. Mr Barton, S.M., upheld the point raised by the defence and dismissed the case.
