The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council'-of the loco! Chamber of Commerce was held on Thursday evening, presided over by Air D. Christie, president. There were also present? Messrs Chrystall, Hornblow, Perrenu, ,Tno. Ross, E. Woods Winstanley, F. N. Smith. Chas. Simmons and the secretary (AH R. AloMurray). Air F. A. Hornblow said that the Government was in possession of facts concerning the Marton-Levin railway and the League had employed engineers who had supplied a plan of the proposed route which had been printed and widely circulated. Valuable information and data had been collected by the late Mr AV. Cl .Kensington, which Was embodied in the report of the Commission. All these facts were in possession of the late secretary of, the League. The president said the present league executive was only acting temporarily and that permanent appointments should lie made. He agiced that the Hon. Ed. Newman should he communicated with in connection with the coming C’ommis--sion and that Mr Hiley should lee approached to give evidence. AH MeAliirray said he did not think Iho League need concern it- 0 self with the Palmerston N. deviation as discontent and objection to Hie deviation was manifesting itself in Palmerston N. Mr Hhrystal'l said fe intended to wait on the Manawafu County Council at its next meeting and get that body interested in the subject and to appoint a delegate to the League. It was decided to write to flu-. Hon. Ed. Newman and solicit his cooperation. CONFERENCE OF CHAMBERS. Correspondence was read from the Association notifying that the annual conferenie would he held at Wanganui on November 19th and 2(iih. —Air Ghry.stall was appointed delegate and failing his attendance, to ask Hie A nek land delegate to represent the torai Chamber and to move ihe remit re bank exchange. OPENING UP LAND.

Air Ale Murray referred to the reading and opening up of land at bangitane and urged that a road be constructed from Moutoa A‘to connect with the road under construction through Mr Aker’s property. He understood that Mr W. Ross contemplated erecting a bridge across the river which would give access to the proposed road, which if put Ihrohgh to Moutoa, would shorten the distance from Fox ton to Palmerston X. by four miles, and, further, would be of benefit to Fox ton commercially.—Decided that the president and secretary confer with Alt W. Ross and report to next meeting. TELEPHONE HOURS. It was decided to confer with the postmaster re extension of telephone hours, li was pointed out that Fox ton was entitled to an extension of hours front fi a.rn. to midnight. SHIPPING. The question of shipping to the port was discussed and it was decided to write to the Canterbury Shipping Co., asking when they intended to place a steamer in the Fox ion service and to point out that the Harbour Board was exending wharf facilities, etc. Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
