ALL BLACKS DEFEAT CUMBERLAND.
BY 41 POINTS TO Nil,. On Saturday afternoon the All Blacks met and defeated Cumberland, last season the champion Couni y of England, by 41 points to nil. The match was played at Carlisle, before a very satisfactory attendance of ,16.000 spectators. The All Blacks played brilliantly, and the cabled report of the mntejk says that “the English champions looked on dazed.” The N.Z. team was altered as far as the backs were con - cerned, and. judging by results, the alteration proved very satisfactory. Cooke, who is looked on as one of X.Z.'s most brilliant live-eighths, played a fine game at centre threequarter, and Parker, who was selected in the team primarily as an extra wing-forward, played an exelleni game ns wing three-quarter. The goal kicking’was again at fault, especially in the first spell, when live tries were scored and none con verted. There was an improvement in the second half, when four of the six tries scored were added to. White succeeded on three occasions and Nepia once. The “stars” of Hie game were Hart, who for the .second occasion during the tour scored four tries, and Nicholls. The latter made many brilliant openings which greatly aided his side towards the very satisfactory conclusion of the match. Of the eleven tries scored. only one was scored by a forward (Stewart.), the remainder being secured by backs, an indication that the scrum was .functioning in true N.Z. style, and that Mill, at half, together with all the inside hacks, were playing up to expectations.
