REGATTA FOR LEVIN.
THE LAKE SUITABLE.
Thu Mayor of Levin, at Monday night's meeting of the Borough Council. outlined the proposal to hold the N'.Z. Championship Rowing Regatta on Lake Horowhenua. He had received a telephone message from tiie committee which inspected the Lake, to the effect that they considered it quite suitable for the l’egatta and would recommend it. He wished to refer to two points. The first was that lie bad heard it said that Wellington wanted to push the regatta on to Levin. This was not su. The first suggestion in this direct ioti came from a Levin resident will) was in Wellington. A sum of £2(15 would lie required, but against that there were certain sources of revenue, such as the sale of piogranimes, refreshment rights, admission to ground, etc., bringing the amount down roughly to £18l». If Levin refused the-offer it would go to Fieufr, The regatta would be field at the end of January. Three hundred competitors would be in Levin for the best parr of a week. He understood marquees would be provided for the boats.
