COWARDLY ASSAULT AT NAPIER.

Napier, Last Night

A cowardly assault was perpetrated on Saturday evening at a restaurant in Napier, in connection with which David Davis (23) and George Edgar Casey (25) have been arrested. It is stated that Davis and Casey went to Paxie’s restaurant for tea. They asked lor a corkscrew which was refused, and when they had finished their meal they created trouble over payment. Andrew Paxie in ejecting Casey, fought him to the street. The light continued in front of the restaurant and Casey was either knocked down or fell. It is alleged that when Paxie stood back to allow hint to rise, Davis came from behind and hit Paxie over the right eye, rupturing the eyeball. Paxie was taken to hospital, where his eye was removed.
