MOTOR LORRY FATALITY.
YOUNG MAN KILLED AND TWO INJURED. A sensational motor lor ry 'accident occurred at Plimmerton at about four o’clock on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of the driver, Prank C. Garland, of Wellington, aged 21. Mr Garland left Wellington in a motor truck on Saturday afternoon for Plimmerlon. At 2 p.m. on Sunday Garland, accompanied by John Timothy Hynes, Gilbert Tinney and John O’Connor, all single men, and residents of Plinnnerton, set off in the lorry for a run to Paekakariki, deceased driving. Wihen nearing Plimmerton on the return journey the lorry, for some unaccountable reason, left the road and toppled down a steep bank, throwing the four occupants out. The truck landed on its wheels over a fence in a paddock some distance below the level of the roadway. The four men were all badly bruised and shaken, hut Garland suffered worst of all. Assistance was soon forthcoming and the injured man was removed to Plimmerton, where medical aid was forthcoming. Accompanied by Hynes Garland was put on the evening train for Wellington, but succumbed to bis injuries on the journey to the city. p’Connor and Tinney were conveyed to the Mental Hospital at Porirua, where examination disclosed that Tinney, besides severe facial abrasions, had dislocated a shoulder. O’Connor, who has only recently recovered from a severe operation, suffered considerably from shock.
