FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.
OFFTCTAF OPENTXG OF COURTS. 'the official opening of the Foxton Tennis Club’s courts took 2>laee on Saturday. There was a good attendance of members and their friends and their were visitors present from all parrs of the district. The president, Air C. Simmons, in welcoming those present, said he hoped the coming season would prove as successful as in past years. He also expressed the hope that, by curtailing expenses as much as possible this season, the club would be able to procure more courts for next season. Airs AfcAlurrav, served the first ball of the season and the courts were formally declared open for play. A Yankee tournament was engaged in, Alessrs Bryant and E. J. .lackson and Alisses Beard and 1 ’erica u winning four games each, fn the plav-off, Air Bryant and Aliss Be mum defeated Mr Jackson and Miss-Beard by 20 points to 19. The scores were as follows: — Misses Beard and Perreau 80, R. Barber 77, Airs AlcLaren 76, Airs AlcAlurray 74. Alisses Owen 73, Speirs 69. Neylon 56, Airs Eruera 55, Misses J. AfcArurray 50, Williams -17, Dent 41. Men.—-Alessrs Bryant and Jackson iSO, R. AlcAlurray 75, Wall 74, Ceryman 66, Eruera 64, Pelican and Aitken 61, D. AlcAlurray 61, AV. llowe 51, X. Ross 45, W. Ross 40. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies and although the day was rather boisterous, a most enjoyable time was spent and seme very good games played.
