BOWLING.

OPENING OF GREEN TOMORROW.. To-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock the local bowling green will be officially opened for rite season’s play by tiie President, Mr J. M. Barr. Given favourable weather, the function should be a record for this club, ns dubs throughout the Alanawatu Centre have signified their intention of being present to take part in play. In.addition to members of surrounding clubs, the general public arc invited to be present and no doubt they will, take advantage of I be opportunity, as in past years. The green promises to-play particularly well for so early in the season. The Committee have thought it wise to entail extra expense this year in the preparation of the green for the commencement of the season, and it is apparent that this step has been justified. In addition to this caretaker’s wages have been increased and his duties defined in a manner which should make for a general improvement in the condition of the green throughout fTTo season. The President will take the opportunity while welcoming visitors, to present to last year’s winner Air J. AL Thomson, the Wilford Cup, a handicap singles trophy, which will be lu-ld by Mr Thomson during the ensuing year.

At a meeting of Committee held on Friday evening, it was decided to hold a handicap pairs tourney on the local green on Labour Day, the 27th inst., play to commence at 9 a. in.

Bowlers and Croquet players are requested to bring a basket to-mor-row to assist with the catering arrangements. Local bowlers arc requested to be on iho green mq later than 1.45 so that those responsible will have sufficient' time to arrange rinks before the official opening lakes place. Names will be taken in the order in which members appear on the green and the playing list will be closed as soon as the requisite number of local rinks has been reached.
