A WELLINGTON BLAZE.
BOA 111 MNG-1 lOUSE DESTROYED. BOARDERS’ NARROW ESCAPE. Wellington. Last Night. A sixleen-roomed boarding-house occupied by Mrs McArthur and owned by Messrs T)wnn Bros., was fotall\ destroyed by lire between 9 and 10 p.m. to-night. Three men- —.J. Eraser. W. Shield and Mr Don —-escaped bv jumping from the balcony on to a lean-to, and they caught an elderly man as he jumped from the balcony. An excited crowd watched these narrow escapes. The fire is believed to have commenced downstairs but in a few moments the whole building was involved. The brigade subdued the lire in under an hour but only tbe shell remained. A bank collapsed owing to witter pressure, throwing two firemen into the road, but they escaped injury. The insurances are not yet known.
