PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.
The Presbytery of Wanganui met nil Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Church HA 11, Atari on. Rev. F. McDonald, Moderator, occupied the chair, and there was a large and representative gathering of members. HOAfE MISSIONS. Ah- Ireland was re-appointed to Bulls for another year. A request was received from Air Aligns S. Stuart, home missionary, of Shannon, to have his application to enter (he Theological Hall as a student for flic ministry ..laid before the next meeting of the General Assembly. This was strongly supported by the Home Mission Committee, and it was decided to send the application to the Theological commit fee. FOXTON BOUNDARIES. A letter was received from Air D. AY. Low, session clerk, of £>f. Andrew’s Church, Palmerstos N., pointing out that whereas the session did not wish to hamper the Presbytery in its arrangement of the work of the whole district, the Tiakitahuna district, one ot St. Andrew’s outfields. was strongly opposed to any change in the present, arrangements. Air Bredin reported that financial matters in dispute had been settled and arrangements made as to what each section of I he district would he prepared to jiny. Tbe question of Tiakitahuna was, however, crucial. Air Wilton, of Raugiotn, said that if this matter did not go through, some other arrangements must he come to, and he suggested that the outfields be attclied to Palmerston N. charge, to he worked with the
help of a student or home missionary. If was moved that the commission dealing with this matter he discharged and that a visitation of Presbytery be arranged to the Foxtoii charge at a convenient date, to go into the whole question. The visitation was fixed for Tuesday 21st inst., at 12 noon. CHURCH ARCHITECT. The following overture was submitted by Rev. Cl. Brown: “Where as the erection of suitable buildings for the various branches of the development work of our congregations is an important and continuous necessity, and whereas if is extremely desirable that such buildings should be arehitectually in keeping with the dignity and importance of our kirk, and whereas local disputes about rival plans, etc., are a frequent cause of congregational disscssiou and division, the Presbytery of Wanganui humbly overtures the General Assembly, indicated to meet at Palmerston N. on November 11, 102-1, to take these premises into consideration, ami to appoint a consulting architect- of high professional standing, to whom all proposed plans for new ecclesiastical buildings may be submitted - for judgment and advice; or (o determine otherwise as to his wisdom shall seem best.” —This overture, after discussion, was sustained, and will be duly submitted to the Assembly. The following ministers were appointed as voting members of Ihe General Assembly: Revs. T. Miller, D. Ale Ivor, J. Loan/ H. Beggs, J. Johnstone, \V. AlcNeur, and G. T. Brown. Elders were to be appointed from the following charges. — Foxton, Himterville, SI. Andrew’s, Pr. Inters ton X., St. David’s, Turakina, St. Janie’ and St. Paul’s Wangnniii.
A report on Assembly arrangements was submitted by Rev. G. T. Brown, who appealed to various congregations for donations towards the Assembly expenses. A retiring collection in each congregation was authorised for this purpose.
