CROQUET.

OPENING OF SHANNON COURTS

Yesterday afternoon, in conjunction with the ollieial opening of the Shannon Bowling Green, the ladies croquet courts were opened by the president of the newly-formed Croquet Club, Mr J. Beard. These courts have been laid down on the spot previously occupied by the hard tennis courts, and owing to the peculiarities of the present season, sufficient opportunity, has not been available so far for the finishing touches to be applied, and hence the courts were not in very good order, iti.vvever, Air Beard, in declaring the courts open, welcomed visitors present, and stated the new club showed every indication of being very successful from the beginning between thirty and forty members being already enrolled. He mentioned that the ladies were very gratetul to the bowling elub for what they had done; and assured Shannon bowlers that the ladies would be willing and anxious to do anything they could to assist the bowler’s in return. Mrs Beard hit the first bail, and the green was declared open for Play. The courts were occupied during tiie afternoon by a number of players. Foxton Club was represented by five players.
