FIRE BRIGADES TO DEMONSTRATE.

BIG GATHERING TO BE HELD TN LEVIN. A .fixture of some importance in tine Fire Brigade world is to be held in Levin in January next when the lire-fighters of all the neighbouring lowns will meet there in competition. A i Friday evening's meefimr of the Levin Fire Brigade the Superintendent (Mr J. Connor) reported as follows, in regard to the matter. — It has been decided by the following brigades (Palmerston N.), Feilding, Foxton, Otaki and Levin) to hold a day’s competitions in Le- \ in about January 17th. A programme of light events will be run, according to the U.F.B.A. programme for Christchurch demonstration to be held in March. These competitions are In take place annually between the several brigades mentioned and to include Shannon should they form a, brigade there. There is to be a shield for the aggregate, valued at £lO 10/-. Levin Brigade have guaranteed to find same. We hope by local effort to raise the amount for prizes, about £2O. I am confident that these competitions will stimulate great interest in fire brigade work, and will certainly credo greater efficiency in addition to fostering a fraternal spirit amongst brigadesmen. A lei ter from the secretary of the U.F.B.A. expressing approval of the proposal, was before the Board, such a competition being, he stated, admirable training for the annual New Zealand competitions, and useful as stimulating interest in brigade work. Members of the Board expressed lively satisfaction with the Brigade's invention, the chairman (Mr F. C. Cray) and the Wellington members stating their intention to attend.
