SCOW TURNS TURTLE.
CREW ESCAPE SAFELY. Dargaville, September 27. This morning a scow, loaded with sleepers for the Public Works Department at Pukelmin, was being towed through the opening in the Wairoa. bridge, when it struck one oj. the piles, which kuocked a hole in the fore part, and she immediately began to take in water, eventually turning turtle alongside the Inidgc where she now lies. She will be lowed to shallow water later for repairs. .Members of the crew, when they saw the vessel was likely to turn turtle, climbed .up tlfe bridge piles to safety. No damage was done to the bridge and it is expected that most of the sleepers will be recovered. The scow belonged to the Kaipara St cam Ship Company.
