The Wellington members were authorised to cable for metal and brass helmets for brigndesmen. The matter of raising the partitions in the station was left ill the hands of the local committee, with power to act. Mr Bryant’s offer to supply benzine when required was agreed to. The estimates and expenditure were carefully considered and accounts totalling £297 19/5 passed for payment. It was resolved to connect the superintendent’s residence with the telephone and to make enquiry re telephone bell amplifier at the station: and to provide the messenger with a uniform. It was resolved to serve notice on adjoining owners re fencing the fire station section and to ascertain cost of fencing. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The Superintendent reported as f allows:—
“During the past three months two calls have been made on the Brigade, one a house in Avenue Rd. which was practically destroyed (the walls and a portion' of the roof being left standing) through the alarm being given too late; the other was a false alarm given on account of a flare from a properly enclosed destructor in Spern’s timber yard. The Brigade has held seventeen musters during that period, the average attendance at each muster being eleven. The Brigade is not up to full strength, having two vacancies. While the bell was being rung for the fire in Avenue Rd. the main easting broke, and I had the bell made a fixture, being now rung by the clapper swinging instead of the bell, which, I consider, is a far more satisfactory method. The hydrants have been fitted in the posi--1 i<uis recommended by Inspector Hugo and fastened with quick-re-lease fasteners. The Council’s at11m ion should be drawn to the fact that, although marked on the plan provided, there is no fire plug on the corner of Johnston and Cook Sts. — Adopted. It was decided that the Board meet the Brigade on the evening of the next quarterly meeting.
